09-30-08 begin of class assignment(robotics)
I dont know much about robotics, i just know that most of the things that control this world deals with robotics. that most robotics deal with computerized controls and things like that. i have a friend that is interested in biomedical enginneering. im not sure if they are anything in comman but her interest deals with electronics like robotics. if a robotic course was available in the earier time of my high school years i would have extremely been interested in taking the course just to find out what it is about and to have knowledge in some other feild of study. i still dont know what i want to do yet so i think this course might have helped my decicion. if we had programming classes i would take them to because i think that the two courses would help with each other some what and i would want to know alot of things which will alway expand considering the electronic society keep on growing through the years. if we were to have these classes i would like the 7 period day bacuase then i could take both classes at the same time and they will work together so it might be alittle easier then taking one one semester and the other the 2nd semester.

Warm-Up 09-29-08
Right now a 7 period day next year wouldnt bother me because this year is my senior year and im not going to be here next year. i feel sorry for the people that will have to deal with that change but again i dont have to go through it because i will be in college at that time. the people that will be taking this change will be able to get more classes in during the year. it kind of to late to be a computer completion but i would have like to have that.

A new iPhone application aims to help voters keep tabs on the election campaign. simply named campaign the software sells for 99 cent online to iPhone and IPOd touch users. this campaign feature everything you need to know about the elections even the candidates blogs.
this think that in 10 to 20 years this will help voters be more informed on the elections and to who they are really voting into the white house. i am so pro-obama but i did not sign up for the obama campaign text messages and i really dont feel that i will. this new application is one of many applications available along with news outlets and manymore.

the power point study guide opinion

MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
I like dealing with the power point cuz it is expediant with everything it is just straight up to th point about everything and that is my style. i didnt really mind doing the study guide power point, its not really that bad, i dont mind if we do it again. if i could go back i would have made buttons to go to the next slide after you had got the question right and if you got it wrong anfd stuff. i think i liked the way me and my partner did it the colors really did well and it was easy to read and stuff. i wish we had come up with some other cleaver questions cuz some of the questions everyone had on their powerpoint so other then the buttons i think that would have been the only thing that i would change.

we can be aware of new technologies in the world the same way we are aware of the disasters in the world we could stay in tuned with other countries and see what they are doing so that we might improve our our civilization. in hurricane crisis we can use technology to aid the people that have lost everything and need phones or computers or anything electronic. we use the technology of machines to build more homes for the people and more shops were they may get the supplies they need. our government should be well prepared ahead of time just in case of something bad happening. they should have all supplies and stuff for that situation.

CERN is a system designed to conduct particle physics experiments. a group of greek people hacked into the corrider that was supposed to be tested wednesday and defaced a CERN web page with a message typed in all greek. these hackers called the CERN`s information technology security staff a bunch of schoolkids and said that they had no plan in disrupting the collider experiments. the big name that is associated with CERN is Tim Berners-Lee who invented the world wide web, he is incharge and the web got hacked so that means that their secirity is not that good. they should tell us about how to protect our websites from getting hacked like there company`s corrider did.

Google documents is an online program that is kind of like the online email word that you can work on and creat documents but then you can send these documents to other friends and they can add things onto the document. you can star the documents and everything. this program has almost the same tabs and controls that a regular email has.
The google article was about how google owners has added new tools to their website that allows you to type documents faster. for example, they added the dictionary key that allows you to get the definiton of the word you want without opening a whole bunch of seperate windows. you can also get pictures and used the encyclopedia in the same way. these tools were added for the use of many college students or just the regular joe.

On thursday SanDisk introdueced a 32-GB compactFlash card(picture to the left). This is the company`s largest CF storage device. this device is moved more towards people that use professional digital photographers and videographers. it is double the size of the companies precious product. this is not the fastest compactflash card sandisk makes, they have one that is up to 45 MB however it cost up to $400. the additional capacity is useful for storing pictures shot in RAW format. the format uses 10 times the storage as the regular JPG images, but has higher-quality images. all cards operate inder temperatures ranging from minus 13 degrees fahrenheit to 185 degrees fahrenheit.
this article is similar to our decussion in class because both of them talk about memory.

Warm-Up 09-17-08

VS.
The article is pretty much talking about how Microsoft and apple are in competition with each other and they are creating commercials to help the US citizens figure out if they want there computer or not. the apple MAC was first with a commercial about as young man( the MAC) talking about how much better he was then the older man( the PC)...bill gates saw this commercial and citizens started buying more MAC`s then DELL`s so he decided to make a commercial about him and Jerry Seinfeld talking about computers to catch the eye of the typical middle age family. in response to Jerry`s questions at the end of the campaign commercial bill gates did the robot to answer yes. i thought that the commersial was kind of stupid compared to the MAC computer commercial. these commercials were to help the companies but i think that apple did a much better job.their commercials are much funnier and more planned out becuase the microsoft commercial doesnt even talk about any of the programs or system that microsoft has and everything.

Mainframe vs.PC

mainframe computers are mainly used by large organizations for critical applications, typically bulk data processing such as census, industry and consumer statistics, ERP, and finanical transaction processing. the original mainframes were housed in enormous, room-sixed metal boxes or frames. with a personal computer or PC you dont have to have alot of free space for it. this computer is designed for the use by just one person. unlike the mainframe computers that need a whole team to control them. mainframe computers take alot of energy to power them. to think that if scientists never evolved computers that computers would still be filling up our living room floors and we would be haveing a team of techinctions to come look at them every other day...holy crap! i like it the way it is now!...anyways today the size of computers have shrunk and the power it can create has has increase. the mainframe computer has always been known as the mainframe computer but the PC was once known as rhe microcomputer because of the complete computer being buily on a smaller scale than the huge systems in use by most businesses.

Compare and contrast of RAM,ROM,Virtual andCaching Memory

http://www.crews.org/curriculum/ex/compsci/articles/howcomput.htm
RAM: is considered “random access” because you can access any memory cell directly if you know the row and column that intersect at that cell. This memory comes from the main mother board of your computer. Unlike ROM it works only when the computer is turned on. This memory controls the moment by moment processes of the computer. RAM is the home of the operating system which in these days is most of the time Windows 95. The ram needs a lot of space to run all the programs it is supposed most users need.

ROM: this is known as read only memory, this memory is permanent, memory. This memory stays on the computer even when it is turned off. It cannot be erased or change in anyway. However PROM a type of ROM can be altered.ROM is responsible for storing the basic input/output systems (BIOS) that control the start-up and boot process. ROM can be found in any electronically operated device. EPROM –Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory, EEROM-Electrically Erased Read-Only memory.
VIRTUAL:is a common part of the most operating systems on desktop computers. It has become so common because it provides a big benefit for users at a very low cost. With virtual memory, what the computer can do is look at RAM for areas that have not been used recently and copy them onto the hard disk. Virtual memory allows us to run programs because ROM and RAM doesn’t have enough space, virtual memory allows us to multi-task on the computer and internet etc. with the help of the virtual memory there is more room for the RAM to load a new application. This allows you computer to feel like it has more memory space then is actually installed. However if you computer has to heavily really on the virtual memory you will notice a significant performance drop. If the virtual memory is not working right the computer has to swap information back and forth between RAM and the hard disk, this is called thrashing this makes your computer incredibly slow. Both cache and virtual are types of memory supplement and perform the same function as RAM.this memory is a form of caching.
CACHING: helps you larger areas of your computer to be accessed quickly, caching is an important computer-science process that appears on every computer in a variety of forms. There are memory caches, hardware and software disk caches, page caches and more.modern computers have both L1 and L2 caches and now come have L3 cache.

computer history
1939-David Packard and Bill Hewlett found Hewlett-Packard in a Palo Alto, California garage. Their first product was the HP 200A Audio Oscillator, which was used by many engineers.
....Walt Disney Pictures also ordered eight of the 200B model to use as sound effects generators for the 1940 movie “Fantasia.”
1941-Konrad Zuse finishes the Z3 computer which was an early computer which used floating point binary arithmetic and had a 22-bit word length.
1943- The original Z3 was destroyed in a bombing raid of Berlin.
1945-On September 9th, Grace Hopper recorded the first actual computer "bug" — a moth stuck between the relays and logged at 15:45 hours on the Harvard Mark II. She helped program the Harvard Mark I and II and developed the first compiler, A-0.
1948-Claude Shannon showed engineers how to code data so they could check for accuracy after transmission between computers.
1950- Engineering Research Associates of Minneapolis built the ERA 1101, the first commercially produced computer that held 1 million bits on its magnetic drum, the earliest magnetic storage devices it stored as many as 4,000 words and retrieved any one of them in as little as five-thousandths of a second.
this computer was first used by the U.S. Navy
1952- grace hopper completes the A-0 Compiler, a program that allows a computer user to use english-like words instead of numbers.
1958- the first integrated circuit is created to prove that resistors and capacitors could exist on the same piece of semiconductor material.
1962- the first widely accepted epitaxial gold-doped NPN transistor was created by fairchild camera and instrument corp.
1963- the first artificial robotic arm is created, the rancho arm, as a tool for the handicapped. its fjoints flexibilty deminstrate the motion of a human arm.
